Intriguing, suspense and mystery – Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s MOM’s trailer leaves a lot of question spurring in the mind around the whole story of a complicated relationship between a mother and her step-daughter. Revenge plays a dark motive in the movie. The music had to portray all the dark and emotional vibes which the teasers of the film promised. And when it’s AR Rahman who is behind the music album, it has to be unconventionally powerful.
Here’s the music review of Sridevi’s MOM:
O Sona Tere Liye
Phailaayi lau dhoop ne, Raahein nayi aa chale, Honthon pe ho roshni, Tere kam ho khushi se faasle, O sona tere liye
The subtle tunes of piano and acoustic guitar – Isn’t it just a perfect way to start a song? AR Rahman and Shashaa Tirupati with powerful balance in their voices create a magic. O Sona Tere Liye is a sedative lullaby and the song is here to stay for long, all credits to AR Rahman’s high pitch and Shashaa’s ability to match it well.  Irshad Kamil’s lyrics give the song a completely new well! Indeed a beautiful composition and it doesn’t fail to impress if you are the one who believes in soft music and not commercial.
Kooke Kawn
For those who love Sukhwinder Singh, here comes Kooke Kawn sung by him. But, the song is a little disappointment in a way we have maestros AR Rahman and Sukhwinder Singh putting their skills to test. On the other hand, the song is a powerhouse in terms of its energetic levels.
Raakh Baakhi
Dark, Intense and High-Octane tunes – Raakh Baakhi is one masterpiece, sung by Jonita Gandhi and composed by AR Rahman. Going by the music of the song, Raakh Baakhi looks like that it will come at time when there will be a major plot change in the story. Chikh Seene Mein Dabi Hai Jo, Kisko Bulaye – lyrics by Irshad Kamil makes it even more dark. From piano, keyboard to electronic guitar –  the instrumental quotient is high in the song.

Freaking Life
If you are a teenager, you will surely relate to the song. From dark to now angst in tunes, the trajectory of the album completely changes. Rianjali, Rajkumari and Suzanne D’mello led the song in a perfect way and you would start tapping your feet. Bass guitar, keyboard ,and electronic guitar keep the tempo of the song high and you would not be bored even if you play it on loop.
Chal Kahin Door
Shashaa Tirupati shines out in this track and AR Rahman’s music does wonders for Chal Kahin Door Chale. The song starts with piano and string and slowly transfuses with tunes of flute – it makes the song just perfect for this rainy weather. Sitting at the office, you will be traveling places. Chal Kahin Door might even make you teary-eyed if you missing that care from your loved ones and you just want to run away from the cobwebs of this hustle-bustle of the city life. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics are an add-on factor to make the song more likable.
Muafi Mushkil
One of the best songs on the jukebox, but would take a bit to sink in with the tunes. It’s not an usual song – extended prelude which comes in the mid-way is stunningly handled by the singer Darshana Kt. Electronic piano and guitar riffs perfectly suited the tempo of the song. Muafi Mushkil didn’t use many instruments as Darshana’s powerful vocals did an extraordinary job.
Be Nazaara
Sung by Hindustani Classical singer Sudeep Jaipurwala, Be Nazaara seems like a desh raga and words cannot describe the soul and effort which has been put in the making of the song. The tunes of mandolin, violin and thavil take the song to a level that it’s tough, to sum up in just a few words. Hats off!

Verdict: In a nutshell, AR Rahman weaves magic through his excellence and execution of singers like Shashaa Tirupati, Sukhwinder Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Rianjali, Rajkumari, Suzanne D’mello, Darshana Kt and Sudeep Jaipurwala.
